Hill Giant Lair
[Castle Line]

1. Main Entrance
(Ceiling Height: Varies 15' to 25'; Illum: Large torches in floor stands)

One male Hill Giant (AC 3; MV 12; HD 12+1d2, hp 62; THAC0 9; #Att 1; Dmg 1d6 or 2d6+7 (weapon); Ml 13-14; XP 3000) and a pair of Dire Wolves (AC 6; MV 18; HD 4+4; 30, 28; THAC0 15; #Att 1; Dmg 2d4; Ml 10; XP 175) keep watch from this vantage point.  From here, they have a clear view of the hills before their cavern lair and are a few feet higher than the smaller entrance to the southwest. The giant has a supply of fifteen boulders, ready for throwing (2d8 dmg), piled against the eastern side of the opening.

2. Dire Wolves' Den
(Ceiling Height: Varies 15' to 30'; Illum: None)

The remainder six of the pack of eight Dire Wolves (AC 6; MV 18; HD 4+4; hp 19, 21, 30, 22, 9, 22; THAC0 15; #Att 1; Dmg 2d4; Ml 10; XP 175) who share these caverns with the hill giants, and serve as watchdogs, make their den here amid the bones and tattered remains of their victims.  The dire wolves have excellent hearing, and will howl an alarm if any non-giant enters the caverns.

3. Main Living Chamber
(Ceiling Height: Varies 25' to 35'; Illum: 10' dia. firepit in center of area)

The six male Hill Giants (AC 3; MV 12; HD 12+1d2; hp 62 (from entrance, area #1), 64, 66, 67, 61, 65; THAC0 9; #Att 1; Dmg 1d6 or 2d6+7 (weapon); Ml 13-14; XP 3000) make their homes here, and most of the band spends a large part of their time here as the best firepit and ventilation is found here.  They cook their meals and eat here, too.  At any given time, there will be two male hill giants and there is a 50% chance that 1d3 of the females are here, too.

4. Female and Young Quarters
(Ceiling Height: Varies 15' to 25'; Illum: 5' dia. firepit in center of area)

The six female Hill Giants (AC 3; MV 12; HD 12+1d2; hp 58, 64, 66, 55, 57, 62; THAC0 9; #Att 1; Dmg 1d6 or 2d6+7 (weapon); Ml 13-14; XP 3000) live here with their three half-grown young hill giants (AC 5; MV 12; HD 8+1; hp 32, 31, 34; THAC0 16; #Att 1; Dmg 1d6 or 2d6+3 (weapon); Ml 13-14; XP 1500).  The females will fight viciously to defend their young, and the young giants have already participated in a number of raids and are skillful fighters as well.  The young giants will attempt to pelt any attackers with rocks (2d8 dmg) while their mothers attack with huge clubs.

5. Cheiftan's Quarters
(Ceiling Height: Varies 15' to 25'; Illum: 5' dia. firepit in center of area)

The huge chieftan of the hill giants (AC 3; MV 12; HD 12+1d2; hp 90; THAC0 9; #Att 1; Dmg 1d6 or 2d6+8 (weapon); Ml 13-14; XP 3500) makes his homes here in what passes for luxury among hill giants.  His bed is a massive pile of furs and stolen human-sized mattresses.

6. Treasure Storage
(Ceiling Height: Varies 15' to 20'; Illum: None)

The chieftan is responsible for the amassed treasure -- 1275cp, 3313sp, 1703gp, 6 gems (1 X 10gp, 2 X 50gp, 1 X 200gp, 2 X 500gp), 3 art objects (electrum bar: 125gp, mink cloak: 1352gp, fine platinum scabbard: 205gp), 3 magic items (Potion of Extra-healing, Potion of Poison) -- of the giant clan, and keeps it in a pit beneath a huge (350lb) boulder.  In addition, there are five huge casks (100 gallons each) of quality ale stacked along the walls here.  The cheiftan doles out barrel-size mugs of this fine ale to celebrate particularly good raids. Hill giants are notorious for destroying magical items and the potions have been spared largely because they are wrapped in the rug and stuffed into a sack of coins, going unnoticed.  The smashed remnants of at least three wands, dozens of potion flasks, and some magical device resembling a boat lay scattered like trash (which they are to the hill giants) about the room.
