The result of a wizard's misguided attempt to create a superior familiar by combining the speed of a quickling and the ferocity of a wolverine, the NightBrother turned out to be rather more dangerous than its creator had intended. After tearing their creator apart, the foul creatures escaped into the nearby forest and have since become a plague over many areas of Arr-Kelaan.

Bipedal and standing slightly less than two feet tall, the NightBrother has a hairy, pear-shaped body with no discernible neck. Red eyes glow savagely at the top of its body, above a fang-filled mouth which appears located in the middle of the creature's chest. Short bandy legs ending in wicked claws support its weight, and its long slender arms reach to the ground. The overly-large four-fingered hands end in razor-sharp talons that look far too large for the creature to lift.

Combat: In combat, it becomes evident that not only can the creature lift its heavy talons, but it can use them with terrifying efficiency. The NightBrother is among the very fastest of Arr-Kelaan's creatures, becoming a blur of talons, fangs, and glowing eyes when attacking. The first two of its four attacks per round are made before the initiative roll, its remaining attacks are made with a -4 bonus to its initiative roll. The usual strategy of the NightBrothers is to circle their prey at full speed, slashing at it from all sides until they succeed in killing it.

NightBrothers are particularly sensitive to light. If they see only torches or lanterns, NightBrothers will attempt to use their limited Darkness powers to extinguish the light source before attacking. NightBrothers can generate a small globe of Darkness once per day. Daylight, or being within the area of effect of a Light or Continual Light spell, does 2 points of damage a round to NightBrothers, and drives them away at top speed.

Habitat/Society: NightBrothers organize into small packs lead by the largest and most fierce of the group. Each pack will claim a territory of up to three square miles. The NightBrothers will violently defend their territory against any other sort of predator; including other NightBrother packs.

Ecology: NightBrothers are exclusively carnivores and will consume the meat of any sort of animal they can kill, which basically means anything which cannot escape by flying or some similar means. They have been known to attack Humans and the other intelligent races; even well-equipped adventuring parties. In cities, they prey upon rats, dogs, cats and the occasional transient.

NightBrothers delight in killing, and often attack for no other reason than to satisfy their blood lust.
