Thuraakhs are solitary hunters of the woodlands, resembling a six legged mountain lion with a lynx's large, tufted ears. They are sandy brown in color with some rust red striping around the hind quarters and white on the chest and face. Ears are typically dark brown. There is considerably speculation that the Thuraakh is, in fact, the ancestor of all the six-legged creatures of Arr-Kelaan including displacer beasts, temraakh, and thaar.
Combat: Thuraakhs are quiet and stealthy, surprising their prey 75% of the time and typically attacking from the rear. They attack with two claws and a bite when threatened or defending their lair, mate, or cubs.
Habitat/Society: Thuraakh are solitary unless encountered near their lair where it is possible (25%) to find a mated pair with 1-3 cubs. The male thuraakh stays with the female for about a year after the birth of the cubs, helping with the hunting and insuring the development of his offspring. As the cubs near the time where they are ready to leave the lair, the male leaves as well. Each thuraakh maintains a territory of about four or five square miles, defending their territory against other thuraaks and other relatively small predators.
Ecology: Thuraakh can be found throughout Arr-Kelaan, preferring forested hills. They prey upon small game such as rabbits and the like, but will attack deer or larger animals when raising cubs. Female thuraakh will often capture small game and bring it home alive for her cubs to practice their hunting skills. Thuraakh are more easily trained than most cats, and cubs can be trained as superb hunting companions. A healthy cub can be sold for 100gp.
